The Mortgage Underwriting Officer will guarantee that all loan application packages, through thorough analysis, contain the appropriate information and documentation that is necessary to satisfy the requirements of the bank, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, PHFA, URA, and various other underwriting agency guidelines. This employee will provide an approval or rejection of the loan application based on an informed underwriting decision using the above guidelines.

Description of Duties:
Complete a detailed analysis of the appraisal report and loan file to insure the standard necessary to conform to the underwriting guidelines listed above.
Accurately determine the borrower’s ability and willingness to repay the debt.
Document the system and/or loan file either for approval or rejection outside of standard underwriting procedures.
Respond accurately to underwriting questions from the loan originators and correspondents to insure that consistent policy and procedures are followed as prescribed by the bank.
Assist in the development or changes in application, processing, underwriting and closing procedures affected by changes in the underwriting guidelines listed above or by changes in the system.
Instruct loan processors in new procedures or the review of existing procedures.
Review loan package(s) after initial processing step is completed to identify critical areas that could adversely affect the probability of loan approval. Provide the appropriate follow up in these areas.
Maintain complete awareness of quality customer service through effective communication and by presenting the bank in a positive, professional, and courteous manner.
Three years of underwriting experience on conventional mortgages is required.
Two years of experience underwriting FHA, VA and bond loans is required. Experience in reverse mortgage underwriting preferred.
High School Diploma/GED required. Some college preferred.
Thorough knowledge of loan processing and closing procedures.
Demonstrated ability and desire to provide high quality customer service.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Proven analytical skills.
Candidate will have proficient computer skills and the ability to learn Dollar Bank’s software packages.
Candidate must be well versed in Desktop Underwriter and Loan Prospector underwriting systems.
Demonstrated ability to handle a high volume of productivity.
Must be detail oriented, organized and work efficiently under pressure.
